Funding could also be allocated to support alternative community safety models that are rooted in communities. Examples of alternatives exist around the city such as 696 at Queensbridge Houses and the Peacekeepers program at Red Hook Houses.

These alternative arrangements would be comprised of local community members and thus also addresses concerns about the social distance between officers (many of whom are white and live outside the city) and those more likely to be policed (most of whom are Black and Brown and/or lower income and/or unhoused).
